Protect Our Planet: Climate Action and Environmental Justice | April 27, 2026
Protect Our Planet for April 27, 2026: Climate justice means shade, clean water, public lands, rooftop solar, and making Big Oil pay.
Why the Grassroots Resistance Can’t Wait
People Power United believes that an informed, organized community is the most powerful force for democracy. Every time you read, share, call your representatives, or show up — you are actively protecting our planet. We are not powerless. We are a movement built not by billionaires, polluters, or kings, but by everyday people who believe clean air, clean water, public lands, shade, safety, and a livable planet belong to all of us. The future is not lost. It is being built by us, right now.
On May 1, 2026, workers, students, and families rally, march, and take action across the country to demand a nation that puts workers over billionaires, with many refusing business as usual through No School. No Work. No Shopping. Find an event near you.

The movement for grassroots climate action starts here.
The climate crisis is not only about storms, heat, and rising seas. It is about who gets shade, who gets clean water, who can afford clean energy, and who is forced to pay for corporate pollution. This week, wealthy communities had far more access to trees and green space, the Senate reopened the door to mining near Minnesota’s Boundary Waters, and California’s rooftop solar fight showed how utility power can punish families choosing clean energy.
Meanwhile, Big Oil keeps pretending fossil fuels are cheap while households pay the hidden costs through disasters, sickness, pollution, and subsidies. Shielding polluters from climate lawsuits is not leadership. It is extraction, corruption, and cruelty dressed up as policy.
But this story is not over. We are not powerless. We are a movement built by everyday people, not billionaires, polluters, or kings. We believe clean air, clean water, public lands, shade, safety, and a livable planet are rights that belong to everyone. The future has not been stolen from us. It is being built by us, together, right now.
🌿 Protect Our Planet: This Week’s Environmental Warnings
The climate crisis generates noise every week. Here is what the noise is actually telling us — and why it matters to our movement.
Access to trees is becoming a luxury in European cities
Climate injustice is becoming a neighborhood map. Politico Europe reports that wealthy Europeans are far more likely to have access to nature, while fewer than 15 percent of people in 862 cities studied had proper access to trees, shade, and green space. People power means treating cooling, clean air, and public nature as rights, not luxuries reserved for the wealthy. Politico Europe
Senate Votes to Allow Mining Near Boundary Waters Wilderness
One vote can put an entire wilderness at risk. The Senate voted 50-49 to repeal protections near Minnesota’s Boundary Waters, opening the door to mining near one of the country’s most visited wilderness areas. People power means defending public lands, clean water, and Tribal rights before extraction politics poison what should belong to everyone. The New York Times
California’s Regressive Rooftop Solar Policy Hit With Second Appeal to State Supreme Court
California families should not be punished for choosing clean energy. A new appeal asks the state Supreme Court to overturn a policy that slashes rooftop solar credits, reduces demand for new systems, and hits low-income communities and communities of color especially hard. Freedom over fascism means breaking utility monopoly power and making clean energy affordable, democratic, and local. Common Dreams
New report: Households pay $12 trillion a year in hidden fossil fuel costs – a $23 million a minute ‘gift to Big Oil’
Big Oil is not cheap. We are paying the bill in disasters, disease, and public subsidies. A new report says households shoulder $12 trillion a year in hidden fossil fuel costs, including climate damage and air pollution, while corporations keep cashing in. People power means making polluters pay and building affordable renewable energy that serves communities instead of billionaires. Common Dreams
Republican lawmakers attempt to shield big oil from climate lawsuits in ‘alarming’ bills
Polluters want to be above the law. New bills led by Harriet Hageman and Ted Cruz would give oil and gas companies broad immunity from climate lawsuits and wipe out efforts to hold them accountable for the damage they caused. People power means defending the right of communities to seek justice when corporate greed fuels floods, fires, and suffering. Mother Jones
💔 Why These Stories Matter
These stories are not separate. They are all part of the same fight: polluters want profit without consequences, utilities want control without accountability, and politicians want the public to accept climate injustice as normal.
When trees and green space become luxuries, heat becomes more dangerous for working-class communities. When mining is pushed near the Boundary Waters, clean water, public lands, and Tribal rights are put at risk. When rooftop solar is weakened, families lose power to build cleaner, more affordable energy in their own communities. When fossil fuels impose trillions in hidden costs, ordinary people pay while corporations cash in. And when lawmakers try to block climate lawsuits, they are telling flooded, burned, poisoned, and harmed communities that corporate greed matters more than justice.
But there is another truth here too: people can still intervene. We can defend public lands. We can demand clean energy that belongs to communities, not monopolies. We can make polluters pay. We can fight for trees, shade, clean air, and cooling as public rights. What is being stolen by power can be defended by people. That is why we organize.
🌱 What Comes Next: This Is How We Win
🌳 DEFEND GREEN SPACE FOR ALL — Demand trees, shade, parks, and cooling infrastructure in every neighborhood, not just wealthy ones.
💧 PROTECT PUBLIC LANDS AND CLEAN WATER — Defend the Boundary Waters, Tribal rights, and every community threatened by reckless extraction.
⚡ MAKE CLEAN ENERGY AFFORDABLE AND LOCAL — Fight utility monopoly power and protect rooftop solar so families can choose cleaner, cheaper energy.
🏭 MAKE POLLUTERS PAY — Reject the lie that fossil fuels are cheap. Demand policies that hold Big Oil accountable for climate damage, pollution, and public health costs.
⚖️ DEFEND CLIMATE ACCOUNTABILITY — Oppose any bill that shields oil and gas companies from lawsuits or strips communities of their right to seek justice.
🗳️ VOTE LIKE OUR PLANET DEPENDS ON IT — Because it does. Every race matters when polluters are trying to capture the institutions that should protect us.
✊ BUILD PEOPLE POWER — Organize. Show up. Bring others with you. Every new person in this movement is one more voice Big Oil cannot buy and one more reason hope stays alive.
The climate crisis is playing out in your paycheck, on your power grid, and in our communities. We must rise to meet this moment. Together, we can protect our planet and build a just, sustainable future for generations to come.

This is our moment to rise, resist, and reclaim our rights, freedoms, rule of law, and democracy. Millions of Americans are already refusing to back down — in the streets, at the ballot box, and in their communities.
Every movement that was ever won started with people who refused to quit. We are those people.
The future is not lost. It is being built — by us, right now.
