đĽ Americaâs Fossil Fuel Ambitions Are Driving Up Your Energy Bill
Why are your utility bills rising even as the U.S. produces record energy supplies? The rapid expansion of U.S. liquefied natural gas exports is tightening domestic supply and driving up prices for households. Overseas demand is benefiting energy companies while shifting costs onto consumers at home. âelectricity bills are up 13 percent compared to last year, with some states facing steeper jumps than others. One of the reasons for those increases is the growing export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and a corresponding spike in gas prices, argues a new report from Public Citizen, a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization.â Critics question whether export policy is serving the public interestâor corporate profits at the expense of families and the climate. â Mother Jones
đ§ď¸ Behind WA flooding, the inescapable specter of climate change
Is this flooding really âunexpectedâ? Washington stateâs recent floods all point to climate-driven shifts in rainfall, infrastructure stress, and development patterns. These disasters are no longer anomalies but predictable consequences of a warming world. Treating them as isolated events only delays urgently needed climate adaptation. âIf you guessed climate change was playing a role in this, youâd be right. Climate change isnât just making storms âwetterâ in a simple sense; it is fundamentally breaking the regionâs natural plumbing system.â â The Seattle Times
đ§ The Arctic Just Experienced Its Warmest Year on Record
The Arctic is heating up faster than anywhere else on Earth. Scientists report record-breaking temperatures, shrinking sea ice, and accelerating ecosystem disruption. âThe past 10 years have been the warmest recorded in a region that is heating at two to four times the global average.â These changes are already affecting wildlife, Indigenous communities, and global weather systems. Researchers warn Arctic warming is amplifying climate impacts worldwide. â Truthout

How do we Protect Our Planet?
đ At Home
Save energy by switching to LED bulbs, upgrading to efficient appliances, and unplugging devices when not in useâsmall habits make a big impact. Choose renewable energy from your utility or consider installing rooftop solar. Conserve water by fixing leaks, shortening showers, and using efficient fixtures. Eat more plant-based meals to reduce emissions and improve your health. Compost and recycle to keep food scraps and recyclables out of landfills, cutting methane pollution. And drive lessâwalk, bike, carpool, or take public transit whenever possible, because every mile not driven helps the planet.
đź At Work
Support remote work options to reduce commutes and cut emissions. Improve efficiency by using LED lighting, motion sensors, and better insulation. Go paperless with digital tools and choose recycled materials when printing is necessary. Promote green travel by encouraging biking, carpooling, and public transportation. Buy sustainably by selecting eco-friendly, non-toxic, and recyclable products. And lead on policy by advocating for workplace sustainability goals and partnering with ethical vendors.
đ The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time â but itâs also our greatest opportunity to rebuild, renew, and rise together. By pairing small personal changes with big collective action, we can protect our planet and secure a livable future for generations to come.
