Something remarkable is happening in climate science: pollution that was once invisible can increasingly be seen from space.
At the same time, scientists are warning that thawing permafrost, warming wetlands, wildfires, and stressed forests can release even more greenhouse gases as the planet warms. That makes cutting human-caused pollution now even more important.
Yet on Monday, the EPA repealed major federal carbon standards for coal- and gas-fired power plants. The administration says the move will reduce regulatory costs and support energy production. Environmental advocates warn it could lock in more climate pollution, and legal challenges are expected.
The frustrating part? We already know how to move in another direction. Solar is becoming extraordinarily cheap around the world, batteries are expanding, methane leaks can be found and repaired, and communities are restoring ecosystems capable of storing enormous amounts of carbon.

The EPA finalized the repeal of most of the 2024 carbon-pollution standards for fossil-fuel power plants and is proposing to eliminate remaining federal greenhouse-gas standards for the sector. 🛰️ Satellites Are Catching Methane Super-Polluters
Satellite analysis identified major methane releases from oil and gas facilities across the United States, including emissions far above EPA’s threshold for a “super emitter.” Researchers also found evidence that actual methane emissions from the industry are significantly higher than official estimates. 🌱 A Wetland Comeback in North Carolina
In North Carolina’s Inner Banks, a massive restoration project is rewetting peatlands that were drained decades ago. The damaged land currently releases an estimated 130,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually and is more vulnerable to wildfires. Restoring the water can help keep carbon in the ground while improving wildlife habitat, water storage, and flood protection. AP News

☀️ And Solar Keeps Getting Cheaper
Solar power has become remarkably inexpensive, with global panel prices falling to around 12 cents per watt as manufacturing expands. Households and businesses from Pakistan to Africa are increasingly turning to solar not only because it is cleaner, but because it can offer cheaper and more reliable electricity. Financial Times
That rapid growth creates new challenges for electric grids and raises important questions about making sure lower-income households share the benefits.
But the larger story is hard to miss: Clean energy is no longer a distant promise. It is being built now.
💔 Why This Matters
Scientists warned this week that natural climate feedbacks could add roughly 0.2°C to 0.4°C of additional warming this century, depending partly on how much pollution humanity continues producing. Warming itself can cause permafrost, wetlands, forests, and other ecosystems to release additional greenhouse gases.
That does not mean runaway warming is inevitable.
It means time matters.
Every methane leak repaired matters. Every dirty power plant replaced matters. Every wetland protected matters. Every solar panel installed matters. Every policy choice matters.
Climate action is not one gigantic decision someone will make someday.
