Jeff VanderMeer painted a grotesque picture of climate change. Now heâs back for more

Jeff VanderMeer painted a grotesque picture of climate change. Now heâs back for moreYou know how in the Star Wars prequels, you learn how midi-chlorians sort of explain Jedi powers? Or how The Silmarillion explained all the history and lore of the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Donât expect those types of concrete answers from the new novel Absolution. âIâve never really been into the idea of âlore,ââ said author Jeff VanderMeer in an interview.
We are in danger of forgetting what the climate crisis means: extinction | Martha Gill
The Guardian By Martha GillÂ
You may have heard of Cop29, the global climate change conference that doesnât start until 11 November but has already been generating headlines for weeks. You are less likely to have heard of Cop16, the international summit on biodiversity. It wrapped up two days ago but has barely scraped the news agenda. The lack of interest in Cop16 extended even to the participants. A whopping failed to submit plans for meeting a landmark UN nature agreement at the conference, as they had promised to do.

Move on. Nothing to see here. Just another ordinary, everyday apocalypse. If past experience is any guide, the worldâs reaction to the floods in Spain last week will be similar to that of motorway drivers at a crash scene: slow down, take in the horror, outwardly express sympathy, inwardly give thanks that fate picked someone else â and foot on the accelerator.

People Power Unitedâs Statement on Protect Our Planet
In response to recent MAGA shenanigans to enact Project 2025 and harm our environment, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - issued the following statement:
âOur planet is under attack as the MAGA agenda seeks to reward the rich and powerful at the expense of our environment. Climate change poses an urgent and immediate danger to our environment, our planet, and the very future of life on Earth. We must stand strong in the face of these threats and take action to educate and empower our communities. Together, we can protect our environment, preserve the beauty and biodiversity of our planet, and ensure a sustainable future for all. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices,â said Laurie Woodward GarcĂa of People Power United.
People Power United will continue to oppose such harm to our community and champion civil rights for all.
Join us to build People Power! Together, we can champion our rights, freedoms, and democracy, hold our leaders accountable to the people's will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
